Challenges make life meaningful

11

“Challenges are what make life interesting and overcoming them is what makes life meaningful.” Joshua J Marine.

Facing challenges can make you see everything in a new way. It can breath more and new meaning into life. How boring would life be without any challenges? There wouldn’t be a lot to do, which can cause life to become mundane. For example, facing one challenge can bring you peace or a set of new challenges to face, making things exciting and life changing. Think about your challenges and how you face them.

Do you feel your life is meaningful?

What challenges do you face?

Could changing the way you view those challenges make life more meaningful?

What can you start overcoming today?

Dreams can come true

10

“Our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them.” Walt Disney.

If you set your mind to something, there isn’t much you can’t do. A lot of us get stuck, our dreams appearing so far from reach that they seem impossible. It can’t be so discouraging that you won’t even reach for them. It takes courage to throw caution to the wind and push forward. Dreams aren’t much good if you don’t actively pursue them. Think about your courage to pursue your dreams.

How fantastic are your dreams? Do they seem impossible?

Do you have the courage to pursue them?

How could you find the courage to forge ahead?

Boldly faced difficulties

9

“It has been my philosophy of life that difficulties vanish when faced boldly.” Isaac Asimov.

Facing difficulties in life is the only way to get through them. You have fewer when you face them, they really do vanish. Doing will get you nowhere. Face them and you can overcome them. Think about your difficulties and how you face them.

What are your difficulties right now? Are you facing them?

What would you gain if you face your problems head-on?

What could you do we face them? What do you think would happen?

What one difficulty could you begin tackling right now?

Criticism

8

“There is only one way to avoid criticism: do nothing, say nothing, and be nothing.” -Aristotle.

There’s no way to avoid criticism, it’s all around us. People have a tendency of being critical of others in an effort to make themselves feel better. Everyone is guilty of criticizing at some point, you can’t let it bother you, no one is walking in your shoes.

Unfortunately, I take all criticism extremely personally. Unfortunately, my worst critic is myself. I just can’t seem to ever please myself. It’s something most people suffer with, it’s also the hardest critic to silence Think about how you deal with criticism.

Do you have a tendency of avoiding criticism? Why?

How can you teach yourself to ignore it?

What type criticism bothers you the most?

Why do people criticize you? Is it because of jealousy? Or because you go against the grain and don’t do things the way everyone else does?

Look and see

6

“It’s not what you look at that matters, it’s what you see.” Anonymous.

Everyone can look at the same situation and see something different. One person can look at the loss of a job and see financial ruin, while someone else may see the opportunity to begin a new career. I know that’s easy to say but hard to see. I personally can never see the “bright side”.

A few years back I got really sick, months in the hospital/could die type sick. It made me realize a few things. It’s all in how you see things. For example, my liver is shot… But I don’t need a transplant (right now). No, it wasn’t a life-changing experience, more of life altering. I made changes, and began focusing on things a little differently. It’s the reason I haven’t had to go back to the hospital, and my life and health have improved. Think about what you look at.

What do you see yourself looking at? What do you see?

How could you change what you see?

How would life change if you changed what you see?

Education via Adversity

5

“There is no education like adversity.” Benjamin Disraeli.

Nothing will teach you more than adverse times, it’s when you find out what you’re made of. Afterwards, you are left with what you have learned. Those new skills will last your entire lifetime. Those experiences prepare you to handle what may come. New skills are something I have boatloads of. Whenever there’s a crisis, I can handle it, it’s something I’m well trained in. Of course, I have difficulties with every day life, when there isn’t a crisis to deal with. It just reminds me that I’m a work in progress and have much more to learn.

Think about the adversities you have faced.

Do you have a lot of adversity in your life?

Do you know where it comes from?

How could he teach you?

How could you further use what you’ve learned?

You must fail

4

“In order to succeed you must fail, so that you know what not to do next time.” -Anthony J. D’Angelo.

This quote says it all, there is no teacher like experience. Every failure brings a lesson with it. It’s up to you to pay attention and learn from it. It helps you decide what is not working so you don’t repeat your failures.

I’ve experienced a lot of failures in my own life, I would have a hard time pointing out any of my own successes. But I’ve also learned a lot from them. At this point there’s very little I couldn’t handle, I’ve learned how to deal and adapt. I know what works and what doesn’t, so I won’t make the same mistakes.

Think about what your failures are teaching you.

What have you failed at? What lessons have you learned from those failures?

Have your learned what not to do? Have you repeated those failures?

How can those lessons help you succeed?

When have you succeeded by knowing what not to do?

Limitation

3

“Limitations live only in our minds. But if we use our imaginations, our possibilities become limitless.”- Jamie Paoplinetti.

You are only limited as much as you think you are. Use your imagination and anything becomes possible. You simply need to figure out how to turn imagining into possibility. The possibilities you think of are what you can use to push forward.

Personally I like to look at houses for sale online. Silly, I know, I can’t afford a house right now. But I just like to imagine owning one. It helps me see the possibilities and keeps me striving to own one.

Think about your limitations and what you imagine for your possibilities.

Do you limit your possibilities?

What possibilities can you imagine?

What if you allowed yourself to imagine limitless possibilities?

How could you use your imagination to create and implement new possibilities?

Anxiety

2

‘Nothing diminishes anxiety faster than action.” -Walter Anderson.

Everything in life comes with a degree of anxiety, it makes change scary and routine comforting. No one has ever gotten ahead without feeling a little bit of anxiety. It can either push you forward or keep you frozen in place. The more you can learn to use anxiety to motivate you the better, sitting around feeling anxious won’t get you far. Using it and facing it will help you become more productive.

This is something I struggle a great deal with. I’m known for getting wrapped up in my anxiety, I make plans, but don’t get anything accomplished because I become paralyzed. Taking action is hard for me, but I’m determined and that helps. Taking action, even small steps, is still difficult for me. Ijust push my way through and lean on my support system if I need to. Sometimes it feels like it’ll never get better, even though it has, I just can’t see it.

Think about your own anxieties and how you allow them to shape what you do.

What are you anxieties?

Can you take action in a way that lessens your anxieties? How?

What could happen if you took action in spite of your anxieties?

What action could you take right now?

Getting started

1

“The secret of getting ahead is getting started.” -Mark Twain.

Anyone can think of ways to get ahead, but most people stop there. They never get started because it’s hard.

I have a million plans in my own head, I know what I could/should be doing. The act of getting started always trips me up. I may do one or two things, but I never really truly get started. I know a lot of people have the same problem.

Take this blog for instance. I had it all planned out, got things setup, spent a few hundred on hosting and everything. I stuck with it for a while, but struggled. Its been sitting here ever since. I hadn’t given up, I just never really got started. I let myself get discouraged and kept putting it off. Now, I have come back more determined than ever. I know if I don’t truly get started, I will have spent all of my savings for nothing.

If you’re reading this , I hope this helps you get started. I hope you’ll join me on a journey of discovery, that is the purpose of this blog after all.
